In the modern era the world community of Muslims are in a quandary to deliver solutions for many of the challenges that presents themselves especially in the field of leadership. Leadership can be developed and groomed if it is nourished, understood, secured within creative and scientific principles constructed on the foundations of Islam. The principle grooming is through the guidance of the ‘The Noble Qur`an and The way of the Prophetic Model (S)’. The Prophet (S) of Islam is characterized by The Noble Qur`an as ‘a mercy for all mankind’. This elucidates the principle and the example of a worldwide leadership.

The purpose of this paper albeit not comprehensive or conclusive, is to provide the groundwork to establish a new global strategy for Muslims and to deal with the current realities, future vistas and opportunities worldwide, within the context of crystallizing the message of Islam and dealing with current realities and problems, so as to structure a global strategy and vision for Muslims and mankind.

The Islamic heritage traces back to the establishment of the ideal society of Medina by the Prophet of Islam and how that experience shaped the world extending from Medina to Baghdad, The Middle-East, North and Central Africa, Europe – as in Spain and Turkey (Anatolia), The Balkans, Russia – The Sub Continent and The Far-East for a thousand years.

Muslim leadership, thinkers, philosophers and economists from Spain (Andalusia) inspired and led to the development of the European Renaissance. The development of modern science, art and enlightenment was through the culture of Islam that germinated and flourished Spain and Europe to new ideals of social justice, which inspired the self-determining revolutions of the modern era. Islam has helped frame a new ethical and moral outlook emphasizing the values of freedom, happiness, virtues of human rights and the value of belief and worship.

On the course for a global strategy led by Muslims an in-depth study and analysis of the message of Islam needs to be reconstructed. The dichotomy that exists between Islam and Muslims needs to be merged. There must be no misunderstanding that when Muslims truly follow Islam, it will be the beginning of their revival. The revival of the Muslims will be rekindled when they understand and re-organize the concept of the ‘Living’ Islam.

In our reorganization and reconstruction it is essential that Muslims understand the ‘living’ concepts as expounded in the Noble Qur`an, e.g. Tawheed (Unity-Oneness of Allah), Shirk (Associating a partner with Allah), Taqwa (Allah's consciousness), Tazkiyah (self purification), The 99 Names of Allah (Allah’s attributes), Iqhlas (sincerity), Adl (justice), & Jihad (lower and greater endurance) etc. These concepts need to be studied, understood, lived and worshiped. These concepts must be pivotal for the revival and will lead to a newfound vibrancy.

The re-establishment of social, political and economic justice are essential for understanding the cardinal action as expounded in the Noble Qur`an, of ‘enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil’.

The question of establishing healthy communities is to first establish companionship (Sahabis), Ukhuwa (brotherhood) and the principle of ‘Shura’ (mutual consultation), which are the stepping-stones to institute the global leadership ‘emirate’ for the Muslim world community. The groundwork of establishing a successful character is described as ‘a walking Qur`an’. The Qur`an is the essential divine guidance for all mankind, which forms the basis of all rationality and disciplines of the body, mind and soul.

Rationality and knowledge is established in the living Islam and the ‘tarbiyyah’ is the essential ingredient for reading, learning, research, and writing that inculcates progressive disciplines through the worship of Allah (SWT). This knowledge and the quest for ‘truths’ from the cradle to the grave is the journey of life. This is the ‘total courtesy’ to the divine reality, which are in the belief, worship, surrender, acknowledge and recognize the oneness of Allah (SWT).

The basis of this foundation is founded on the belief or ‘Iman’, i.e. belief in the Oneness of Allah (S), The Angels, The Prophets, The Books, Predestination and the Last Day.

The Pillars of the foundation of ‘Islam’ is enshrined in the Shahada, Salaah, Zakaah, Fasting, and Hajj. The emphasis is on politicizing the pillar of Zakah. This principle strategy is to deal with the issue of an alternative economic system from Riba, (interest) and to undertake social reforms to alleviate social and economic ills.

The character of the Muslim community is lived according to ‘Ihsaan’, that is to worship Allah (S) as though one sees Him and if one does not see Him, know that He sees you. The fulfilling of this behavior is the perfection of ones ‘Ibadah’ for the total submission to the will of Allah, which brings one peace with his Creator, Peace with oneself and Peace with Allah (S) creation.

The Qur`an and the Way of the prophet (S) of Islam are the example and methodology for the perfection of the self, which guides humanity through the difficulties of life.

The innate characteristics for the perfection of behavior is divinely spelt out and qualities such as ‘Sabr (perseverance), Shukr (thanking Allah), Zikr (invoking the remembrance of Allah), Istighfaar (repentance) and Dua (supplication) are the antidote for human tribulations and weaknesses.

This perfection of the self is the basis of establishing a divine link with Allah (S). The worship of Allah (S) opens the yearning to learn, excel and perfect the blessings given to mankind, always appreciating and enhancing the balance for ourselves and for Allah's (S) creation on the Earth and the Heavens. Therefore the protection of our environment i.e. the ecology, the Mother Earth and what is within and all of space is the responsibility of Muslims and good people.

In hindsight it appears that Muslims have run out of ideas, but under careful consideration, Islam is ever vibrant and appealing for mankind to adapt to the challenge. Muslims must understand in the modern era that their ideas are not impacting the current realities. For future opportunities Muslims have to stare the gift horse in the face and re-affirm their heart and soul to the message of Islam and act upon it. This wisdom is an act of “ibadah’ at the highest level when put into action. For Muslims to make a difference for the leadership of the world and to find solution for the ills of the world they must make relevant inputs with a clear understanding of their intent to help mankind.

In the modern epoch the challenges to find happiness for the cause of humankind and to deal with current realities and future openings is to deliver basic amenities such as the availability of basic food, shelter, primary health and primary education. To understand and live the principle of social democracy as ‘Ibadah’, which is founded on the characteristics of compassion and justice.

The primary responsibility of capable individuals is to provide security and protection for the community in return for loyalty and trust. This can easily translate into responsibility of individuals and society, which further translates into capable, sincere and creative leadership.

The movement of the political, social and economic engine of the individual and community is based principally on the fear and love of Allah (S). The total adherence and submission to Allah (S) is to enable the divine guidance and mercy for the dual success and happiness of this world and the hereafter.

The understanding that we are born in the world unconditionally and in death we leave every thing unconditionally, so therefore our entire life is to practice unconditional giving. This unconditional giving in the eyes of the Creator is in reality the character of the ‘Abd’ the slave of Allah. This process of happiness is the ultimate objective of mankind.

In the light of these recommendations we can contribute to a dialogue amongst different religious, political, economic and cultural viewpoints. In the light of these recommendations we can contribute in the establishment of an alternative global strategy Muslims and mankind.

This global strategy principally has many ingredients common to many ideologies and religions, but the difference is the capability of the divine Message of Islam, which has a proven rich heritage as well as the success in the methodology when strictly adhered, lived and practiced. The challenge of formulating solutions for the current realities within the Islamic scope and framework is what is lacking. It is in this scope that this paper presents a humble effort, which must be improved.

The solutions in particular need to address the issue of social justice, economic development, political direction, unity and unity of purpose. The modern dilemma of the pandemic HIV/Aids, immorality, abuse of women and children, material accumulation, corruption, capitalism and monopolies, economic bewilderment, ignorance, poverty, blind following, unchecked power, folly of leaders, the manipulation power and war, desecration of the environment, abuse of global resources and the unity of mankind.

Secularism, humanism and now modernism and post modernism are the order of the day. These concepts promote nihilism, which means any thing goes and greed and power are our leaders. The strong devours the weak and the weak are searching for safety, security and happiness from the corrupt blind.

Muslims, mankind and good people have to stand up for their rights and develop, formulate a new and alternative global strategy, which must be based on divine message so that there is hope for a good future and a smile on our children, who are the future of mankind.

Firstly, Muslims need to recognize that we belong to the human family and the need for tolerance, respect and merit of all people in global community. Every person to be protected from unwarranted violence and the protection of his property. Individuals should not endanger or harm others. Individuals should not be discriminated against race, ethnicity, nationality, class, creed or gender. The right to the practice of all religions, dialogue, tolerance and justice.

Secondly, to recognize our responsibilities and duties towards all creation. Large populations, particularly in developing countries, continue to suffer in poverty, disease, and low literacy rate and education, with poor nutrition, sanitation and health. We must expect for our fellow brother as we would expect for ourselves. Religions are particular guilty of preaching to their constituency but are not broadly dealing with current realities worldwide.

Thirdly, Muslims need to draw on ethical and moral principles of honesty, sincerity from Islamic values for Leadership positions and Governance, which emphasize the principle of a Muttaqi (a person conscious of Allah), ‘Ukhuwa’ (brotherhood) and Shura (mutual consultation). Throughout the Muslim lands, unjust leaders and tyrannical rulers bring mistrust and sufferings amongst people.

Fourthly, the issue of Unity in diversities where each of us, ‘holds onto the rope of Allah (S) and are not divided. The movement in action and deed is through the banner of the Kalima Shahada and not through organization and personal opinions.

Fifthly, that each of us to become protector of the earth and the ecology and oblige to leave the environment a better place. To stop the wasting of valuable resources and to avoid unnecessary pollution. The disciplining and restraining of developed countries those are mostly responsible for the unwanted emitting of gases in the atmosphere. The responsibility of governments in the dumping of nuclear waste. We need more scientists and technologists who invent to protect the earth rather then to work for foundation that advocate technology for violence and economic superiority.

Sixthly, a code of responsibility in the protection of our water supplies, seas and oceans. In particular the protection of our food supplies as in over-fishing threatening fish populations worldwide. The protection of our forestry. We need an international body to monitor over fishing and over forestry, which is empowered to take suitable action through an international code.

Seventhly, a new United Nations to represent humanity as a whole, to replace the one currently dominated by certain countries. Alternative ideas for organizations such as the World Bank, IMF so that they become constructively involved in social and economic upliftment programs worldwide. These organizations presently are repressive, domineering and are not sincere in the development of humanity.

Eighthly, to protect and elevate the position of Women and to provide social and economic security for the development of family life. The transformation of family life, which further organizes the community, and develops a vibrant nation. The right to security and social justice central to the theme of the family. Children should be respected and educated. Education systems should provide a minimum standard for every child. Education systems should promote “the character of Qur`anic generation which promotes the love of Allah (S), a scientific method of inquiry and critical thinking. Curriculums should concentrate on the development of ‘Tarbiyah’ and Tazkiyah (body, mind, nafs and soul) from a Qur`anic perspective. Children should not be abused and Parents should provide a secure and loving environment for them.

Ninthly, the proper formulation of the Zakaah pillar as a solution for a just economic system contributing to free markets and fair world trade and economic development. Just economic system should be a solution to the global techno-usurious cartels. A procedure should be found to regulate multinational conglomerates and monopolies and revive the principle of partnership and encouraging self-help. The revival of the ‘awkaaf’ system of charity and institutional development. These institutions to cater for education, human development, economics science and technology, international politics and political science, the media and the development of fine arts including Philosophy, philology, literature, poetry, music, etc. Other topical issues as Tassauwuf, the environment, economics should also be made available. The study of the Shari’ah should be specialized under the faculty of Qadis (Islamic judges and adjudicators) headed by study of the Qur`an and Hadith and expounding the concepts of ‘Ijtihad’, Ijmaa and Qiyas relating to Islamic Law and governance.

Tenthly, to spread the message of Islam which brings out the compassion and the true understanding as a way of life. This message shatters all the barriers of idol worship but encompasses tolerance and justice. The message truly and realistically relates to the ‘Unity of Mankind’.

In conclusion this attempt to formalize a global strategy and unity of mankind is based on the worship Of Allah (S), which brings about love of Allah (S), the love of the Prophet of Islam and the love and responsibility to all of creation.

The unity of mankind is through the belief in the oneness of God which is the unity of Allah called a ‘Tawheedi society. Allah is nearer to man than his jugular vein. He is The Beneficent, The Merciful, The First, The last, The Inwardly Hidden, The Outwardly Manifest, The Living, The Ever Subsisting and Muhammed Ibn Abdullah (S) is last Messenger and the seal of all the Prophets.

Our belief, our morality, our ethics, our law and our ‘Ibadah’ (worship) are in total surrender to Allah (S) so that we ‘enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil’.

The potential of a happy life is possible but we must assume responsibility of current realities and future opportunities, with courage, co-operation, and creative action with conviction for all of humanity. We are responsible for social justice and social democracy and after our Salaah (prayer) we must step into the reality of being part of life solutions for the assistance of neighbors, friends, beggars compatriots and countrymen, etc. “The best Muslim is he who serves mankind”. We are responsible for our future but at least we know that our Creator Allah (S) is in charge of the Heavens and the Earth and He will deliver if we deliver.

Allah (S) = Allah subhana watala.
Muhammad (S), Prophet(S) and Rasul (S) = sal-lal-lohu-alyhi-wassallam=peace be upon him.
