Phase Two: The World of Inner Dependence

The earliest stage of creation that the Qur`an mentions is the emergence of the cosmos. In that gaseous state, the two aspects of creation, heaven and earth, were connected. Then they drifted and were split apart along a certain prescribed pattern. The Qur`anic statement suggests that this separation was designed, destined and already predetermined. In this way creation occurred, and duality was manifested as heaven and earth, liquid and solid, hot and cold, and so on.
