APHORISMS
Knowledge/Wisdom
To be truly informed we must rise above the realm of form to that of
nonform.
Ugliness veils subtle beauty and beauty hides ugliness. It is all a
matter of time or perspective.
We always seek affirmation. Most of us look for it amongst creation
and are often disappointed. The Creator however never lets down the
sincere seeker.
Meditation which leads to higher consciousness is like a skylight in
the human cave which lets in the beam of hope and freedom from the
lumination of the self.
The Collector of beautiful objects is trapped by his collection. The
lover of beauty itself has transcended form to meaning and
attachment to freedom.
Art lovers and Collectors have personal opinions and the lover of
beauty is thrilled by higher knowledge.
Success is founded on acknowledgement of defeat. When the self is
conquered, the spirit announces its triumph.
Chaos is order whose rationale and reason has not yet been
discovered.
The truth is nearer to you than you think.
Outer security lies in familiarity and the deeper the knowledge the
stranger it seems.
When anger is directed at its real deep cause there can be deep
change. Often it is directed at the apparent cause. This is like
blaming the mirror for reflecting back one’s own image. One must not
blame the messenger, but look at the message or root cause.
There are two types of difficulties and problems:
Type a) is a challenge to which to rise and look for a solution – it
is a healthy way of life.
Type b) do not relate to solutions, they are just blocks, obstacles
or emotional grief. Leave them. Problems that cannot be tackled,
practically or rationally or are beyond your capacity often require
time to resolve themselves. Often our reaction to these situation
are emotional and counterproductive.
Success is merely a durable state of harmony as a result of
expectations having been achieved.
Outer success implies a smooth connection between expectations and
results.
Inner success implies a state of constant ease, peace and
contentment irrespective of outer conditions and changes.
Grief and suffering are experiences for which the antidote is its
avoidance. The challenge is to reflect as to how that state came
about in the first place. Attachments, expectations and perceptions
are keys to this discovery.
Your reading or understanding of any situation is much influenced by
your inner state and condition.
If you are curious as to how the subtle and unseen world works then
study and
understand how this manifest world works first.
Life/Transformation
The mystery of life is not solvable nor teachable, only livable
after giving into it.
Existence is a spiritual trap and the only way out of it is by
sublimation and moving upwards from form to meaning and to essence
which is the source of form and meaning.
Cause and Effect are interminably interlinked.
There is only one Divine life force behind infinite varieties of
life experiences.
Life is experienced as constant change, yet we seek the constant and
stable. This paradox can not be resolved – only dissolved by
submission to its truth. Then the divine essence within will shine.
Life is the experience of movement and change. Therefore the faster
we move,
the more full life seems to be. However infinite speed is at zero
time, where the essence lies, beyond time and space.
In total stillness lies the secret of maximum speed.
Only when you experience the infinite love, generosity and
compassion of Allah, can you also be considerate and clement to
others.
Life is a constant struggle towards harmony.
Our world is but a trap and it’s purpose is to discover the
perfection of it’s Creator and Curator who permeates the universal
trap.
Experience
We experience life as we really ARE not as we like or expect.
The world is an honest mirror reflecting our true state.
We often experience our expectations; good or bad.
A truly difficult situation can be the door to relief and freedom.
When confronted with insurmountable obstacles, we can either blame
others or luck, or appeal to Allah with humbleness and prayers.
A tragedy could lead to greater darkness of the self or to a trigger
point towards higher knowledge.
Luck or chance are descriptions of situations not explainable by
rational reasoning.
We view and experience the world through the personally crafted lens
of the SELF.
The seeker experiences constantly changing imperfections until he is
allowed to view life through the Creators’ perfect viewpoint.
For the sincere seeker difficulties, trials and tribulations will
lead to unveilings of higher knowledge. For the unbeliever they are
simply dreadful experiences to be avoided.
We all seek certainty and avoid uncertainty. It is higher knowledge
which leads us to the divine abode of real security.
Today's evil can be the raw material of tomorrows virtue.
What gives happiness can also cause misery.
Beauty has also an ugly side to it.
What we perceive as solid has within it vast atomic space.
That which is near to you by form may have its meaning far from you
and that which is far from you by form may be near in meaning.
When you think the truth is far, it may be close & when you think it
is close it may be far.
The world is queried and experienced through the colored lens of the
“self”, illumined by the pure light of Ruh. The color of the
lens is past experiences, expectations, desires and values. The less
the color the clearer & more accurate is the view.
Freedom is the attempt to escape the familiar towards the unknown.
The
greater our difficulties and failures the more profound can be our
humbleness and submission thereby awakening to the Divine will.
Experiences in life are predictable as well as uncertain. To benefit
and understand from the latter one must break old patterns of
thought and attitude.
The world outside is experienced according to the state of the inner
self.
Actions
You must deal with what you have power over & that is the
willingness to surrender &give up.
We can only act on the rational and causal level of material
existence. Our emotions and non definable anxieties we must delegate
to Allah who has power where we are powerless.
Appropriate action gives greater satisfaction than its obvious
result. A just struggle has its satisfaction irrespective of the
final outcome.
The noblest of all actions is that which helps others along the path
of self discovery which leads to divine knowledge.
Changing outer scenery is not the same as changing our inner view &
vision. The first is like walking on a treadmill and the latter is
like flying in open skies.
Outer projects, success & power can be major obstacles for inner
development.
Action based on knowledge can lead to greater knowledge.
In any action what matters more than the final outcome is the
correctness & harmony of the deed which could lead to the
satisfaction of the need.
Sincerity is essential for the success of every action although the
overall result is never certain.
The basic primal pattern of the self is based on paradise
experience, ease, peace, harmony etc. It can only match outer
worldly experience if it looks beyond the forms to realize the truth
of Allah.
All outer projects are meant to achieve inner contentment and ease.
Despondency and helplessness can yield to hope and positive action
like a luminous fire rising from dead leaves.
Gnosis/Enlightenment
Gnosis is founded on the knowledge that we have no independent
knowledge or existence. The lower self is agitated by existence and
the higher self only sees the permanent truth.
Enlightenment is the knowledge & experience of a constant state not
based on time or space.
The ultimate divine gift lies in the knowledge of the moment; veiled
between the memory of the past and anticipation of the future.
Our real contact with divine truth is the present moment.
Success is short lived and is relative unless it is to do with the
discovery of the overwhelming power of Divine presence and
control.
The ultimate truth lies within you and your present state is a
modification and distortion of this truth. The stronger the action
of the self, the greater is the distortion.
There is only one truth working and energizing infinite varieties of
realities. Every experience or state has it’s reality,
emanating and founded upon the one truth – the noor.
Stillness is where tranquility and peace is found , movement is
where agitation and turmoil is found.
If only you can listen to absolute silence; it’s thunderous sound is
deafening.
If you wish to have access to the subtle knowledge and illuminations
then you need to understand appropriate and worthy actions.
If you are seeking the sacred, look deeply into the secular and if
you wish to understand the secret of the secular meditate upon the
sacred. The two facts are ONE.
Attributes/Behaviors
Cynicism is the suicide of the heart & thus the cynics’ heart is
dead but the intellect carries on in its futile conduct.
The lower self can either be a stepping stone to the higher or
simply a stumbling block.
Humbleness is not the same as low opinion of oneself .
As the body develops physical co-ordination increases.
As the mind develops rational behavior increases.
As the self develops spiritual guidance increases.
The highest state of beingness is simply beingness.
Morals and ethics cannot be enforced or sustained unless a person
realizes the direct benefits in self development and enlightenment.
Society/Leadership
The so called democracies of today are lead by egotistic mediocrity.
Real authority belongs to those who know the original author of
creation.
People of past cultures were much concerned about the nature of
Divine reality. In our time man has forsaken his concern about the
ONE & thus is much more troubled about ever increasing
problems and concerns.
The meltdown of present day inner cities are a reflection of the
breakdown of society.
Current Affairs
Our world is ruled by short term commercial and financial
considerations. Therefore we are all short of time.
Pragmatism favors the materialistic predator & thereby increases
exploitation of those who are not keen or able to exploit.
In the prevailing world the golden rule is that he who possesses the
gold will make the rule.
When the human drive is towards material achievement and dominance
then the score keepers – accountants and lawyers, will be the
political judges and leaders.
The modern dominant western cultures have excess outer wealth whilst
mostly
deprived of access to inner contentment and peace.
The Din
A house with no walls will not give peace & rest. Without outer
boundaries we
have no access to inner space.
If piety & abstention is the only way to curb desires & greed, then
suppression & discontent is a side product. If asceticism is due to
preoccupation with inner
openings & delights then it is the fuel for higher knowledge.
Islam is the art of submission to the Divine Power which is in
control of all existence. Eman (Arabic) is the door which
leads to the calm shores of Freedom of no Choice.
When seated and harnessed in the seat of Shariat you can
experience the smooth flight of the chariot of Haquat.
Islam is the acknowledgement of self submission & surrender, then
comes the learning of interacting with the world of change &
uncertainty.
Bad & discourteous drivers do not prove the inadequacy of the
highway code – Islam.
Our attempt to remove or block out pain and uncertainty from
everyday life has distanced us further from spiritual insight
through humbleness and submission.
The Seeker
The true seeker is a constant traveler; from one place to another &
up one state better. His life is a process of discoveries as each
city bares it’s soul to him & parts it’s essence.
The seeker immigrates from the illusion of outer security &
certainty to the knowledge of inner freedom & infinite
possibilities.
The seeker flees from the short lived state of apparent comfort &
dependence to the station of submission then to Divine reliance.
The seeker travels from the limitation & darkness of what is
commonly considered as “known”, to the vast horizon of what is
considered “unknown”.
The seeker’s self leaves behind its impoverishment to realize the
ever Divine richness.
Man’s lust for wealth & power can never be satisfied. A qualitative
quest cannot be satisfied by quantity.
Even when the sincere seeker begins with blind faith he will
experience the subtle ways of the One Eternal Being who is behind
the faith.
Human beings seek the oldest and the newest at the same time. We
love artifacts and new of the ancient world as well as the present
one. This is because the Spirit in us is from before time and the
soul is of the moment.
Tawhid
The entire cosmos is held in the DIVINE Grip. The world &
hearts of creation are suspended in HIS loving and
compassionate web.
Allah created me
made me;
designed me
shaped me;
patterned me
Allah will guide me
To Him, by
Him
There are infinite numbers of changing realities all contained
within ONE TRUTH
the thread which connects all the beads.
There are infinite number & varieties of realities interacting with
& upon each other. When we realize this fact we see order & when we
don’t we see chaos. However all these realities & our experience of
them is permeated by one all encompassing TRUTH named Allah.
By submitting to the ultimate TRUTH, we begin to understand
the different realities which we experience in a coherent way,
otherwise they seem haphazard & unrelated.
The only durable truth is the divine decree; all manifestations
emanate & return to Him; the everlasting self sustainer.
