In Defiance of Natural Order: The Origins of
“transhuman” Techno-utopia

This paper offers a critique on Transhumanism and post-human philosophy, within the context of Natural Order (considered as theophany: a symbolic showing of the Divine in the ‘mirror’ of manifest form). It includes discussions on Sethian-gnostic antinomianism and humanist utopianism, with emphasis on the paradigmatic-collapse of metaphysics. This collapse, it is argued, involves a ‘conceptual inversion’ of the Divine Absolute, resulting in a myriad of secular ‘absolutisms’, monocultures and commercial/corporate monopolies, as well as the veiled worship of the relative-temporal self (viz. nafs al-ammara: the ‘commanding self’). It is asserted that Transhumanist philosophy – which focuses on bio-genetic and neurological “enhancement” technologies (viz. a quasi-alchemical methodology) – falls under this category of ‘collapse and inversion’. Also discussed are the implications of transhumanist philosophy on traditional methodologies and natural order (i.e. ontological depreciation and ecological degradation).
